Police are urging citizens to use the "Box Tunnel Twenty" hotline to report any information they may have.

This is me messing around with Audacity more than anything and trying to find some neat radio/static effects. Whoops.

It’s not really as clear as I originally planned, but I was trying to give it more of that “we’re not really a national news station” vibe. If there’s any bits you can’t make out (although some are deliberately cut out), let me know.

I’ve just started my spring break (sort of), so I figured I’d do something really low-key. Ergo, the beginning of “Down the Burning Ropes” by James Vincent McMorrow.

Anonymous whispered, "do you have any tips for people who want to be voice actors?"

Well. Honestly, I’m not a good person to ask. I don’t have representation.

What I can suggest is to sort of get your feet wet. Try some fan-done stuff over at Voice Acting Alliance, if you’ve got a good enough mic. Keep in mind that if you want anything professional to put on your resume, stay far away from projects with licenses (i.e. doing a fandub of a licensed work), but there’s always some fun ones if you’ve got some extra time.  It’s always a bit slow over there, and it’s pretty hit-and-miss. Even if you get cast and turn in your lines, sometimes the project just never comes out.

Really, the only thing I can suggest besides that is to make a demo reel. There’s more that a couple Google searches can give than I can, but work on expanding your range of accents and voices. If you have a demo reel, it’ll help get your voice out, especially if you decide to seek professional representation in the future!

Misty Mountains (Cold) ::female cover PREVIEW::

Another remake of an old-ish one I’m working on. This is the version we actually hear in the film, and I’ve been listening to it for an extra four months.

This is only a preview since there’s so many voc tracks. This little bit has over thirty, easy. I seriously, seriously recommend headphones and turning the volume down a bit. You cannot hear the depth of this without.

tl;dr : Use headphones, and the full version probably won’t be out until we get closer to Desolation of Smaug.

breezeblocks -- female cover

————

I wanted to do my own take on this song, since it’s been stuck in my head for a while now.

Thanks to Alt-J’s soundcloud page, which is a godsend.

This is something different. Really different.

This audio post apparently started as a dramatic voice over of something because I’m working on building up things in my writing (and reading out loud sometimes helps, whoops), involved some bad English accent halfway through, and ended as a bad Jude Law impersonation. Oops.

I’m not if context is really relevant here since I tried to leave that a bit ambiguous, but it is related to the Rise of the Guardians film.

burn — acoustic cover // originally by ray lamontagne //

I was weary about doing this one, but why the hell not, right? Just a little one-take thing I did.

empty space [female acappella] // originally by air traffic

———

Just something really quick and short — the song’s almost lullaby-like at times. Only the first verse/chorus because the only guitar chords I can find are brutal and I’m fairly certain I won’t be learning piano anytime soon.

voice acting / music

** 2012 Demo Reel

Exactly what it says. This is a blog for the voice acting and singing I do. My name's Syd Jones, or Sydney Jones. I'm scattered around the internet as both.

I've been singing ever since I can remember, and been self-teaching the guitar for about a year and a half. I'm a full-time student, hating the job market.
